Recent torture and killing of Uber drivers in Brazil are also causing concern with organized crime. A shuttle from Cabo Airport or private transfers is more affordable and safer in the long run.
As of the spring of 2021, there is still an aggressive conflict with Uber in Los Cabos, notably Cabo San Lucas. With this, tourists are being removed from Uber cars by officials being left stranded. Users will need to exit the property and meet on the side of the highway. Uber cannot pick-up from the Los Cabos International Airport. Many times these users are left stranded without transportation alternatives to and from their resort. Uber Not Allowed at SJD Airport – transportation officials have the right to stop Uber, Lyft, and other app-transportation service cars at any time and remove the passengers for their own safety. Uber does not enforce, rather only recommends, safety cleaning protocols to drivers and imposes no checking on driver compliance to Coronavirus safety. All licensed taxis and transportation services must comply with COVID-19 vehicle cleaning protocols. To Help prevent the spreading of Coronavirus public health officials have made recommendations on licensed vehicle travel only – this still stands. As of May 2023, Uber has no legal operating licenses as included in the transportation laws of Baja California SUR.
Uber is still not in legal operations in Los Cabos.
